Spotlight on Bamboologic team member Mona Stoehr, intern from Erfurt, Germany
We are thrilled to share the news that Mona Stoehr, a motivated landscape architecture student from the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany, has joined our team for an internship. Mona’s presence and expertise will greatly contribute to our ongoing projects in Portugal.
Mona’s primary focus will be to provide support in the field. With her keen eye for detail and strong work ethic, she will assist in various aspects, including nursery management, the setup of shoot processing and conducting a comprehensive biodiversity study of our bamboo fields.

Mona, can you tell us something about your studies and your motivation to work with bamboo?
“I became fascinated by the vast world of plants, the complexity of ecosystems, and the coherence of natural environments when I did an apprenticeship at the Botanical Garden of Leipzig, Germany.
There, I specialized in tropical and subtropical species and became a gardener of ornamental flowers. To delve deeper into the “green world,” I started studying landscape architecture. I wanted to understand the interaction between human beings and the sphere of flora and fauna so that both could coexist and even benefit from each other.
While writing my Bachelor’s thesis last year, I discovered a way to make the world, or at least Europe, more livable: bamboo! I became curious about this group of plants because of its fast growth and numerous applications.”
How do you envision the future and how do you try to contribute?
“My idealistic background is to contribute to a greener future that would help preserve our basis of existence while improving the quality of our daily lives in this fast-paced, globalized world. Currently, I am finishing my Master’s degree to satisfy my thirst for knowledge and learn about methods to make society more sustainable.”
What do you hope to achieve with your internship at BambooLogic?
“Now, as I am doing an internship at Bamboologic, I am learning about the process of cultivating bamboo in southern European climates, its opportunities, and its difficulties. I am interested in seeing the process from a bamboo scion to a fully developed bamboo site, from harvesting a mature pole to processing it and making it durable. How can we use bamboo for construction, paper, and even textiles? What benefits does it bring to an ecosystem?
I am trying to find answers to all these questions while working for Bamboologic in Portugal. Ultimately, I hope to see if European bamboo can be one of the sensible reactions to the climate crisis and take a little step towards a greener and more sustainable future for people and nature.”
